1962 Registration of the Company, then known as SAFRAP, in Nigeria on 9 May.
  Allocation of the first concession, Oil Production License (OPL) 35 Onshore, Niger Delta.
   
1964 Drilling of the first Exploration Well and discovery of oil in the Obagi Field.
   
1965 Acquisition of Oil Production License (OPL) 48.
   
1966 Beginning of production from the company's first oil field in Nigeria , the Obagi Field, Oil Mining License (OML) 58, in Rivers State.
   
1967 OPL 35 converted to OMLs 56, 57, 58 and 59, located Onshore Niger Delta in Nigeria covering the present Rivers and Delta States of Nigeria.
   
1971 Joint Venture (JV) replaces concession-type agreement between Operators and the Nigerian Government.
  Nigerian National Oil Corporation (NNOC) acquires 35%.
   
1972 Confirmation of substantial oil discoveries in OML 57 in Delta State.
   
1974 SAFRAP becomes Elf Nigeria Limited, following the world -wide change in name by the group.
  NNOC, becomes Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and increases its equity in the Joint Venture to 55%.
   
1975 The company's oil production reaches 80,000 barrels of oil per day.
   
1979 Acquisition of three offshore concessions – OPLs 458, 459 and 465.
  NNPC increases its participation in the Joint Venture to 60%.
   
1983 NNPC reallocates OPL 447 in the Anambra Basin, south-eastern Nigeria to Elf Nigeria.
   
1984 Relinquishment of the offshore concessions OPLs 458, 459 and 465.
   
1985 Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Government of Nigeria on the rules governing the oil business in the country.
  Acquisition of three offshore concessions: OPLs 93, 95 and 97.
   
1988 First oil discovery in the company's offshore concessions.
   
1989 Acquisition of 5% Equity in the NNPC/Shell/Elf/Agip Joint Venture.
   
1990 Conversion of OPLs 93, 95, 96 and 97 to OMLs 99, 100, 101 and 102 located Offshore southern Nigeria.
   
1992 Elf Nigeria Limited becomes Elf Petroleum Nigeria Limited (EPNL) to reflect its new and distinct status as Operator in the upstream sector of Nigeria 's economy.
   
1993 Commencement of oil production from the first offshore concession (OML 100) in the Odudu Oil Field.
  Signing of Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs) for two deep offshore concessions (OPLs 222 and 223) and three onshore concessions in the Benue trough (OPLs 802, 804 and 807).
  Acquisition of a further 5% Equity in the NNPC/Shell/Elf/Agip Joint Venture.
   
1995 "Farm-in" agreement to partially finance and tap production from some of Shell Nigeria's deep offshore concessions (OPLs 212, 219) and three concessions (OPLs 803, 806 and 809) in the Benue trough in northern Nigeria at 12.5%.
  Launching of the Ofon Field Development Project.
   
1996 Launch of the Obite Gas Plant project.
   
1997 Beginning of production on the company's second offshore field Ofon in OML 102.
   
1998 Launching of the Amenam/Kpono Development Project.

1999 Production start-up of the company's first gas utilisation facility, the Obite Gas Plant (OGP) and NLNG Trains 1 & 2.
   
2000 Overall Nigerian offshore production for EPNL reaches 100,000 barrels of oil per day.
  Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Government and other major operators about equity participation and operations of the oil industry in Nigeria .
  Worldwide merger between TOTALFINA and Elf Aquitaine Groups resulting in the creation of the TOTALFINAELF Group.
  Launching of the Amenam/Kpono Development Project.
  Discovery of Akpo Deep Offshore Field by TOTAL Upstream Nigeria Limited (TUPNI).
   
2001 Construction of drilling facilities for the Amenam/Kpono project in Warri, southern Nigeria, for use offshore.
   
2002 Drilling commences on Amenam/Kpono Field.
  Signing of Amenam/Kpono Unitisation agreement by Elf Petroleum Nigeria Limited (EPNL), Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPNU) and NNPC. The agreement outlines the ownership structure among the partners and arrangements for financing the project and operating the facilities by EPNL.
  Final Investment Decision (FID) on NLNG Trains 4 & 5 and Amenam/Kpono Phase 2 (AKOGEP).
  Discovery of USAN Field.
  Naming ceremony and departure of the new Floating Storage and Offloading vessel called (FSO) Unity, in South Korea, where it was built. The vessel has a storage capacity of 2.4 million barrels of oil.
   
2003 Commencement of production on the Amenam/Kpono Field in the Atlantic Ocean, 30 km offshore from southern Nigeria, on 13 July. The field straddles two concession areas, OML 99 operated by EPNL and OML 70, owned by MPNU. At optimal production, 125,000 barrels per day will be pumped from the field for at least the next 25 years.  
  Start-up of NLNG Train 3.
  Acquisition of a new deep offshore block (OPL 221) under a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) with the NNPC.
   
2004 Official commissioning of the Amenam Kpono Project in March.
  Final Investment Decision (FID) for NLNG Train 6.
   
2005 Acquisition of OPL223 as Operator.
  Discovery of hydrocarbons in the area west of the Usan Field (Usan 6) in deepwater Oil Prospecting Licence (OPL) 222, offshore southeastern Nigeria.
  The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in May, authorized TOTAL, as Operator, to begin developing the offshore Akpo Field on Oil Mining License (OML) 130.
  Farm-in Agreement with NorEast Petroleum Nigeria Limited for the Oil Prospecting Licence (OPL) 215, offshore southwest Nigeria.
  Signing of Production Sharing Contract (PSC) agreement in July with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for the Oil Prospecting License (OPL) 223, offshore southeast Nigeria.
   
2006 Acquisition of 17% Equity of Brass Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
  Farm-Ins in Nigerian companies’ concessions - Amni International Petroleum Development Company Limited (AMNI) on OML 112 & 117; and , NOREAST in OPL 215).
  Acquisition of OPL 223 as Operator.
