COMPANY POLICIES

The Total Group operates according to international standards of Corporate Ethics in the conduct of its business.

Some of these ethical compasses are progressively being codified into policies to guide and constrain all 'employees' within its work environment.

The word 'employee' in this policy is used as an all embracing term to refer to any and all persons engaged in some form of paid service agreement with the Company, including but not limited to permanent local and expatriate staff of the Company, third party contract staff, supernumerary police and commissionaires, National Youth Service Corps members, whether on long term or short-term assignment with the Company

To support the specific policies contained in this brochure are the operating procedures that exist in the company's Management Handbook and Total's corporate culture which is deliberately inculcated in new employees during the 2-week Total Together seminar and through the action of managers, mentors and peer-group leaders within the company.

'Employees', suppliers, partners and the general public are invited to please take note of our policies published in this section and to comment on them by contacting us through our website : www.ng.total.com .

Smoking

To maintain a work - life balance in the management of our employees, we have found it necessary to implement a smoking policy. It is as follows: Smoking, a recognised health hazard, is actively discouraged among our employees. The smoking of cigarettes, cigars or pipes is forbidden in all Total Upstream companies in Nigeria, as well as hydrocarbon processing facilities and other non-smoking areas which include offices, public areas, company restaurants, clinics and vehicles. All contractors and sub-contractors must comply with this policy. Smoking is allowed in designated areas.

Substance abuse

Substances in question include alcohol and illicit drugs such as cocaine, cannabis and opiates as well as inappropriate use of prescription drugs (i.e.Diazepam, barbiturates, amphetamines and other substances) which may result in impairment to health and behaviour, judgement or job performance. Abuse can be defined as incorrect, improper or harmful use of any substance in such a way as to intentionally modify mood, behaviour or performance, and which could impair abilities to perform assigned tasks in a safe and productive manner. Possession, distribution, consumption or sale of alcohol at company premises or on company business is not permitted. In case of traffic accident, alcohol testing will be applied. Employees may be tested at random for use of prohibited drugs. Their use, possession, distribution or sale is strictly prohibited.

Driving

We manage land transport operations as part of our daily business activities to minimise associated Health and Safety hazards. Accordingly, all vehicles used on company business shall comply with our vehicle operating procedures. To wit: no seatbelt, no access in or out of any company or operational site. All company vehicles must have functional seatbelts and all occupants must wear them at all times. Only competent and authorised personnel are allowed to operate company vehicles.
