Akpo FPSO gets ISO 14001 Certification

Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) commends Total for its Safety and Environment accomplishments.

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), on Thursday, July 14, presented the ISO 14001 Certificate to the Akpo Floating, Production, Storage & Offloading (FPSO). The certificate was presented to the Deputy Managing Director, Deep Water District, Mr Charles Ngoka; who received it on behalf of the Managing Director, Mr Guy Maurice, at the Lagos office. The presentation was made by the Deputy Director of SON, Mr Bayo Adegun, on behalf of SON's Director-General, Dr Joseph I Odumodu, who said that with the presentation of the certificate, "Total Upstream Nigeria Limited (TUPNI) has joined the lofty class of Environmental Management System certified companies in Nigeria". He emphasised that the new model of the Environmental Management System standard NIS ISO 14001:2004 to which TUPNI is being certified places emphasis on conformity to not only rules and regulations but to actual performance output which aims at the development of an environmental management system that is focused on preserving and conserving the environment by taking deliberate actions to replenish it.

Mr Ngoka in his contribution, said the Total Group has a long history of working to obtain ISO 14001 accreditation for its major sites, adding that worldwide, the Group aims for every major site to have ISO accreditation by the end of 2012.

The Akpo field is located in OML 130 deep Offshore Nigeria and has capacity to produce about 180,000 barrels of condensate a day at the peak.

Other operational sites in Nigeria already accredited are OML 58, Obite Gas Plant, OML 100 Unity Odudu Platform and OML 102 Ofon.
