The Geosciences and Finance & Control Divisions of Elf Petroleum Nigeria Limited recently concluded the "Training Passport" programmes for their newly recruited staff. The training is part of a concept aimed at the integration of a large number of new staff into the existing teams both locally and internationally such that all young recruits of the Total Group speak the same technical language despite their different backgrounds. The project is also part of Total's global Human Capital Development initiative in all its operating countries.
The GSR training course, the second in the series, had as participants 14 newly recruited staff, who are graduates of Reservoir Engineering, Geology and Geophysics. The course ran from February to August. The course organisers are NexT Schlumberger. It was another demonstration of the partnership that exists between the two multinational companies in their quest to improve the quality of the human capital available in the country. That of Finance & Control with 15 participants which took place from April to June, 2005 was the first batch.
Providing a rationale for the training programme, the General Manager, Geosciences Division, Mr. Alek Musa, said that inorder "to meet the challenges posed by the expanding growth (of the company), we had to start somethng of this nature which has been quite successful." He said the programme is part of an elaborate plan to make "Total the leading energy company in the world."
And with the current emphasis on the development of Nigerian Content in the oil and gas industry, the "Training Passport" programme which is aimed at raising the skills of young Nigerian staff to world class levels meets that objective set by government.
During the graduation for participants from the Finance & Control Division, the General Manager (Control), Mr. Innocent Ihebuzor, admonished the participants that the company expects them to apply whatever knowledge they acquired to their job and that "your future progress in the company will reflect it."
