Total Upstream Companies in Nigeria are set to make a major statement on their deep offshore activities at the forthcoming 23 rd annual conference of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) which comes up in Abuja from 13-18 November, 2005. Several well-researched papers on offshore related activities will be presented by Total during the conference.
With the theme, "Finding the reserves to match a Global Demand Growth", the conference has been primed to examine the various risk factors in oil and gas production. According to the NAPE secretariat, participants will be involved in "extensive and innovative deliberations directed towards the principal challenges the energy sector will face to continue to supply and secure affordable energy to meet the growing demand."
Some of the papers to be delivered by experts from Total include: "Deep Play Seismic Imaging: Total's Effort in Nigeria"; "Deep Offshore Turbidites Characterization using Borehole Imagery Logs"; "Integrated Approach for Deep Play: from Regional to Prospect and from R&D to Operations"; and "Basin Structure in the Anambra Frontier Basin, SE Nigeria: Implications for Hydrocarbon Potential". The overall goal is to deepen knowledge in activities related to deep offshore in Nigeria.
The Amenam Kpono project, located 30km offshore, with an optimal production capacity of 125,000 barrels per day, is Total first major success in offshore exploration. Others such as Usan and the gigantic Akpo fields are closely following. The Usan and Akpo fields are expected to dramatically alter the production capacity of the Total Group in Nigeria from the current 270,000 barrels of oil per day to more than double that figure for oil with additional significant gas production for Trains 6 and 7 of the NLNG by 2008.
Among those to be honoured for their immense contributions to the Association over the years is Dr. Kingsley Ojoh, the Executive General Manager, Geosciences, Elf Petroleum Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary of Total. He will be made a Fellow of NAPE during the conference.
Others to be honoured include, Mr. Phil Chukwu, the former Group General Manager of NAPIMS, now the Managing Director of Nigerian Engineering Technical Company (NETCO), the engineering arm of the NNPC; Mr. Gilbert Odior, current NAPE President and Mr. Chike Onyejekwe, the Exploration Manager of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SDPC).
