Elf Petroleum Nigeria Limited, a Subsidiary of Total awards scholarships to deserving Nigerian students on annual basis.

Objectives of the scholarship scheme

    1. To enhance access to education.

    2. To promote academic excellence.

    3. To improve manpower development.

Categories of scholarship

  • Community Scholarship Scheme

This refers to the scholarships awarded to members of EPNL operational areas. Usually the number, level and type of scholarship are determined at an MOU meeting with the communities concerned. The categories here include post primary scholarship which attracts N30,000.00 per annum, post secondary scholarship whose present value is N75,000.00, and local post graduate scholarship with N150,000 attached to it. The communities nominate beneficiaries of the scheme depending on their manpower requirements.

We also award limited number of post graduate foreign scholarships in the areas of Engineering, Geosciences and Medicine to nominated community members based on MOU. The value of this special scheme is US$20,000.00, and beneficiaries are expected to source fund elsewhere for any excess between this value and the actual cost of their programme.

The scholarship award is meant to assist beneficiaries achieve their educational desire and the value is based on practice in the oil and gas industry mainly and the desire to accommodate more students. Scholarship value is subject to periodic review.

  • National Merit Scholarship Scheme:

This scheme provides for scholarship awards to deserving Nigerian students studying in Nigerian universities for their first degree programme. Areas of focus include Engineering, Sciences, Law, Accounting, Economics and Banking & Finance.

The national scheme award exercise is undertaken annually through competitive selection examination.

Conditions for our scholarship award

The following are the conditions for our scholarship awards:

  1. The award is renewable annually upon attainment of annual GPA of net less than 2.5 and it runs date of award till completion of the first degree programme.


  2. Beneficiaries should not be currently enjoying any other scholarship.


  3. Involvement in cult or other negative activities is prohibited.


  4. Involvement in examination malpractices is not tolerated.


  5. Sessional progress report should be submitted to the Company by the authority of beneficiary's University.


  6. Beneficiaries are not bonded and Total's Upstream Companies in Nigeria is not obliged or committed to provide employment to beneficiaries.


  7. Annual payment is made through the designated after receipt of relevant sessional results. Example, for the payment of 2005/2006 academic session, the progress report of 2004/2005 session would be required.
