OML58 UPGRADE PROJECT MILESTONES

The OML 58 Upgrade project is recording some milestones in the events towards its completion. These include:

  • Team building seminar held in Le Touquet, France from October 2nd to 4th, 2007. The seminar, a great success was concluded with an interactive presentation on Nigerian history and culture by Dr. Martin Okeke, President of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation in France.
  • The completion with NNPC representatives of the Commercial Evaluation for the OML58 Upgrade EPSCC tenders. This exercise was completed in only 2 days, which highlights the excellent working relationship established between the JV Onshore Projects Division and their NAPIMS counterparts and the commitment of all concerned to rapidly progress this project essential for the modernisation of the OML58 Asset.
  • The start of the roads & fences construction for the OML58 Upgrade project on Thursday, October 25, 2007.

The ongoing upgrade of the field has many objectives:

  • Increase the gas treatment capacity of the Obite Gas Plant by over 50%.
  • Significantly increase OML 58's gas export capacity to NLNG through the O-U-R (Obite - Ubeta - Rumuji) pipeline project.
  • Stop gas flaring by installing additional gas compression facilities.
  • Supply gas to the OML 58 Independent Power Project (IPP) and provide gas to the Omoku power plant of the Rivers State Government.
  • Complete a wide range of modifications to modernize the facilities reducing the safety and environment risk and improve the reserves of the mature Obagi oil field.

The upgrade project demonstrates EPNL's long term commitment to OML 58 and serves to ensure that the field is ready for the critical role it will play in the future of the company.
