Group Vice President HSE / SD Visits Nigeria 29-Oct-2007
The strategic importance of Elf Pteroleum Nigeria Limited (EPNL) to the Group was further demonstrated with the visit of the new Group Vice President (HSE / SD), Mr. Jean-Marc Fontaine.
The three-day visit (October 29 - 31, 2007), afforded Mr. Fontaine the opportunity to hold discussions with the DMD (Technical), Mr. Roger Poirier; the DMD (Corporate), Mr. Alek Musa; the Executive Director, External Affairs, Mr. John Addeh; the General Manager, NDDC-EPNL Affairs, Mr. Anthony Abolarin and the General Manager, Sustainable Development, Mr. Vincent Nnadi.
The Vice President also met with the Sustainable Development Team made up of Managers and Heads where the new vision, structure and activities for Sustainable Development (SD) was presented to him.
On his presentation on the Group’s SD Policy, the Vice President emphasized on the need;
to incorporate SD components in development projects by way of social impacts assessment to mitigate any negative effects of such projects and to fulfil corporate social responsibility.
Focus of SD on better controls and reduction of impacts, creating value for all stakeholders as well as community participation in the development processes.
Professionalism and the adoption of such tools as SRM+, GRILLE Corisk to improve our processes.
The efforts being made at the Group level to formalize SD métier.
The need to use the services of credible Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and other partners to build the capacity of host communities to manage their own development.
Note: HSE means Health, Safety & Environment while NDDC means Niger Delta Development Commission.
Mr. Fontaine who recently replaced Mr. Marc Jozan was on his maiden visit to Nigeria.
