EPNL Donates Generating Set to Rivers State Council of the NUJ

The good relationship existing between the company and journalists was further cemented with the donation of a 12.5KVA generating set to the Rivers State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Friday, 7-Dec-2007. The generating set is the latest gesture of the company to the council to enhance their activities and professionalism of journalists in the state.

The General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr. Pauly Enujuba who made the presentation, on behalf of the company was accompanied by the Manager, Communications, Mr. Charles Ogan; Manager, Media & Corporate Affairs, Mr. Fred Ohwahwa and the Media Relations Officer, Mrs. Yetunde Akinokun.

In his speech at the occasion, Mr. Enujuba stated that the company and the Rivers State Council of the NUJ have come a long way and this has developed into a healthy and cordial relationship.

The GM said that the presentation of a generating set to the council is eloquent testimony of the company's sustained efforts over the years to enhance the efficiency of journalists in the state. "Energy is a very important aspect in the discharge of the duty of a journalist for him to be abreast with information on the superhighway.

Explaining further, Mr. Enujuba said: "the importance of energy cannot be     overemphasized. This has necessitated the company to provide 24-hour electricity supply to its Egi host communities which has now given rise to small scale businesses to enhance their living standards". He commended journalists for their watchdog role in the society.

In her response, the Acting Chairman, Ms. Uche Atuzie observed that EPNL has always identified with the programmes of the council more than any company in the state over the years. "What we are witnessing today is a re-affirmation of a longstanding relationship between EPNL and the Press in Rivers State as we complement each other in our services towards a better society".

The Chairman also urged other oil companies to borrow a leaf from EPNL in its relationship with host communities to foster peace and unity in their area of operation. "The Rivers State Council of the NUJ is satisfied with the cordial relationship that exists between your company and your host communities. "Truly, yours is a company at peace with itself. We therefore urge other companies operating in the state to borrow a leaf from EPNL to foster unity and progress with their host communities", she added.
