It was a night of multiple honours for Total at the 2007 Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) Awards as the company's Executive General Manager, GSR, Dr. Kingsley Ojoh; succeeded Dr. Emmanuel Enu as the new President of NAPE, while the Deputy Managing Director, Corporate, Mr. Alek Musa and the Deputy General Manager, Venture Management, Mr. Theo Duze; were awarded fellowships of the association.
In addition to his investiture as the new President of NAPE, Dr. Ojoh also went home with a NAPE / CGG Veritas Distinguished Education and Mentorship Award. Dr. Ojoh was elected at the NAPE 2006 Conference, but his two-year tenure began with his investiture on Wednesday, 14-Nov-2007. Although Mr. Musa was not available to personally receive his award, his wife, May, proved a worthy representative as she confidently stepped unto the podium and claimed the award on behalf of her husband.
The General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr Pauly Enujuba; who stood in for the Managing Director / Chief Executive, Mr. Jacques Marraud des Grottes, was specially recognized and the company was praised for sponsoring the awards night.
"Total's success at NAPE 2007 was certainly not surprising.", Manager, Media and Corporate Affairs, Mr. Fred Ohwahwa remarked shortly after the awards night. "It is just a continuation of a long tradition of excellence." he added, recalling the company's superlative outings at NAPE 2006 and the Offshore West Africa Conference and Exhibition (OWA) 2006, among others.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the immediate past president of NAPE observed that over the years, the association has grown to become a respected player in Nigeria's oil industry. "Government has always taken NAPE resolutions seriously and some of these resolutions have become the basis of policy in such areas as Nigerian Content, gas flaring and others." Dr. Enu said. He charged his successor to continue in this tradition.
