Total receives ISO 14001 Certification for Odudu Field (OML100)
JANUARY 14, 2010

The British Standard institute (BSi) on Thursday, January 14, 2010 formally presented the ISO 14001 certificate for the Odudu field (OML 100) to the JV Offshore management at a brief ceremony in the Port Harcourt Staff canteen.

The Odudu field achieved the feat on Thursday, November 26, 2009 when it joined the other company’s offshore fields- FSO Unity, (OML 99) Amenam/Kpono and OFON (OML 102) to achieve environmental excellence which is a recognition of the company’s commitment to preventing pollution through an effective Environmental Management System (EMS).

Presenting the certificate, Mr Silas Idoko, a representative of BSi commended Total management for its effort to ensure OML 100 achieved the ISO 14001 certification. “Odudu was the last of your fields to achieve the certification and I must commend you for your efforts in ensuring that this comes to pass. The idea is not for you to just achieve the certification but to continuously improve on the Environment Management System in order to have a clean environment”.

Receiving the certificate on behalf of management, the General Manager, Offshore Production, Mr Alastair Olver congratulated the staff for their commitment and hard work which had resulted in the certification of the field. “We will continue to improve on our performance of the site and also correct the lapses identified by BSi to enable us maintain the standards required”.

The benefits of implementing ISO 14001 systems includes, among others:

  • Provision of a framework for the improvement of HSE performances
  • Possible reduction of environment costs e.g. Energy savings, Wastes treatment, Emissions taxes…
  • Credibility for external stakeholders (public, NGOs…)
  • Improvement of relationships with authorities (FGN, DPR)
  • Guarantees the future recognition of "good business" and good practice

OML 100 which started production in 1993 is located about 30km South East of Amenam-Kpono. It serves as focal point for crude oil coming from Amenam Kpono and OML 102 Ofon fields. Odudu, the hub of Total’s offshore fields consists of three satellite stations, Afia, Ime and Edikan.
