The 12^th edition of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Games (NOGIG) kicked off at the Indoors Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Abuja, on Monday, 11^th February 2008, with Total putting up an impressive performance in the early stages of the Table Tennis event. Captain of the Total Contingent, Mr. Seun Odunmbaku says the company has representation in all the events lined up for the week-long tourney. Medals are up for grabs in the following games: Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Squash, Swimming, Athletics, Golf, 8-Ball Pool, Chess, Scrabble and Football.

The Deputy General Manager, Abuja Administration, Mr. Bade Bakare who watched the first set of the Table Tennis event was so thrilled that he resolved that the Abuja Office Location would assemble a powerful supporters’ club for the remainder of the games.

Earlier at an opening ceremony at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Abuja, the guest of honour and Managing Director of Agip Oil, Mr. Carlo Vito Russo, observed that the Games had become a major event in the industry calendar in Nigeria.

While urging the participating athletes to compete fairly, Mr. Russo said converging in Abuja for the 12^th Edition of the Games was a milestone that should evoke a sense of pride associated with the annual event.
In his welcome address, the Chairman, Local Organising Committee (LOC), Mr. Peter Odjoji said the organisers chose Abuja for the 2008 Games to take advantage of its serene environment and standard sporting facilities.

Total is sponsoring all the medals to be awarded at the Games.
